ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am interested in the atomization of identity and social relations in the gay community and our search for meaning through ecstatic ritual, particularly within the context of current hyperrealities.

As a means of exploring these ideas I examine how we perceive and decode abstract and semi-abstract form. I use decorative patterning, silhouette, psychedelia and my own personal pictographic language in an attempt to connect to archetypal experience.

I work in a range of media, creating paintings, collage, screenprints and digital artwork. These media often overlap and integrate. I paint on paper so that I can collage painted images and textures and synthesise the resulting images into my digital work to give it greater tactility and warmth.
