SKETCHBOOK #1
There are earlier sketchbooks than this, but this one marks the beginnings of my current set of projects. In here are the seeds of my parkscapes, hustlers and lizard men series.
Many of the pages feature abstract line compositions on post-its, that have then been assembled into perfunctory grids for the purpose of archiving. These post-it art pieces stem from a time when I was working as a teacher and the only moments I could find for my art practice would be during lunch hour on at the end of the day. I had no studio space at the time and I think this frequent meditation that I would carve out for myself was a way of keeping the flame alive during this difficult and busy time.
There are so some figurative sketches where I am working with interiors, cityscapes and landscapes populated by naked male drifters engaged in cruising and obscure sexual games. These are early attempts to explore this iconography, to see whether there was potential, and also as a means of bringing to the surface and into the light my own desire-nature.
